"Gifts of Virtue"

Introducing my latest paintings, the "Gifts of Virtue, " drawing on my own experiences in dance, and taking inspiration from the ballet Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky. In the opening of this ballet, as in the fairy tale, the infant princess Aurora is having her christening, and the fairies of the realm come to present her with gifts. Each of the dancers in these paintings represents one of those gifts: Grace, Joy, Generosity, Song, Courage and Wisdom. I had meant to post these up in time for World Ballet Day 2024, but alas, it seems that that event has unfortunately been cancelled. Nevertheless, here they are anyway!

This is the first time that I have done a series of paintings which can either stand alone, or together as one picture.

(These paintings are available to order as prints, and soon, as tote bags  ;-)

"The Olympic Firebird."

Acrylic on Canvas.

And, while we are on the subject of ballet, here is my tribute to the ballerinas of the 2012 London Olympic Closing Ceremony, in which I had the honour to take part. Started in 2012, it lay rolled up and uncompleted for ages, until I decided to finish it this year, as it was an "Olympic" year...!

It is signed by Darcey Bussell and Cindy Jourdain of the Royal Ballet, and to accompany their names, I also added all 205 names of the dancers who took part in the show; do you know any of them? (Or are you one of them?)
